Advertisement Ideas

For my project, I've had few ideas but at the moment I really don’t know 100% what I want to do. I really want to do something making fun of an ad and make it funny but I’m having a hard time doing this and not sure where exactly to start. I have looked at your blog on the things you have posted and it helps a little but I just have to figure out what ad I want to do and ill be fine.

Research Papers

Research papers that I have done in the past have been easy and fun for me. I enjoy learning about new things as long as they are somewhat interesting and there are so many resources available that research papers are easy to do. The first research paper I ever did was about being a vegetarian. I learned so much that I wouldn’t otherwise have known and actually seriously considered becoming a vegetarian (my mom wouldn’t let me because she said I don’t get enough protein as it is).

Basically, as long as the topic is interesting to learn about and the paper doesn’t have to be 27 pages long, I have no idea why people hate research papers. They are easy and the information is in front of your face, you really don’t have to do any work other than put it together and cite your sources.

Demystifying Multiculturalism

The reading from the book showed a different light of racism. It is saying that since businesses and universities are now trying to be equal and multiracial that they are focusing less on education and the qualifications needed. They are more concerned on looking multicultural and giving everyone equal opportunities. However, students still feel that they are discriminated against and that racism is still present in the world. Their have been numerous examples of students who have acted out and protested on behalf of their feelings towards discrimination.

This relates to Western Michigan University because I feel that the school has a large variety of races, cultures, and beliefs. Their are also clubs and groups that individuals can join to express their interest in particular multicultural activities. Overall, I feel that Western really thrives to have an equal opportunity for everyone.

Peer Editing!

Peer editing- some love it & some hate it.

Personally, I love it. I like hearing someone else's opinion on my writing and what they think I can do to improve. Also, reading my paper out loud to someone helps me realize my own mistakes that I would have otherwise skipped right over. By listening to another person's opinion I can understand where they are coming from and make my paper better.

Peer editing is great because you can't lose anything from it. As long as you keep an open mind about what people are saying and not take it personally then your paper is going to benefit from it.

Critical Thinking #4

If I was to write a personal narrative about someone who could could not learn a specific skill I would make my story about my sister, Allison. Allie was dyslexic for a couple of years while she was trying to learn to read. Since she had this disability she could not learn to read because she saw everything backwards. Eventually she went to therapy and out grew the disability so she learned to read.

I would not draw any literary devices from Engkert in my narrative because personally I did not enjoy this reading and I would not want my narrative to be as boring and as repetitive as his.
